Your license, computers and subscription
Find your Kimiko license key, activate it on up to 3 computers, move to a new computer, and manage or cancel your subscription.
How your license works
Section titled “How your license works”A Kimiko subscription comes with a license key. Entering it in the app switches on recording, dictation, audio import and retranscription. Your meetings and notes stay on your computer; the key only confirms your subscription.
One key works on up to 3 computers at a time. Kimiko’s settings and Terms sometimes say device; it means the same thing as computer in this guide.
Your Kimiko account at kimiko.app/account is where you find your key, see the computers using it, and manage your subscription. Sign in with the email you subscribed with. We email you a code, so there’s no password to remember. Signing out of your account doesn’t deactivate Kimiko on your computers.
Subscribe
Section titled “Subscribe”- On the Kimiko pricing page, choose monthly or annual.
- Enter your email. We send you a code to sign in, and that creates your Kimiko account.
- Pay on Stripe’s secure page.
Your license key is ready in your account as soon as your payment is confirmed, and we email it to you too. Then activate Kimiko with it.
You can try Kimiko free first, for 14 days or 5 meetings, whichever lasts longer. No account needed.
Find your license key
Section titled “Find your license key”Your key is in two places:
- Your Kimiko account. Sign in, open License & computers, and select Show license key. The key hides again after a minute, or when you leave the tab.
- Your license email. When your subscription starts, we send it in an email called “Your Kimiko license key” from
keys@kimiko.app.
To check that you have the right key, compare its last four characters. Your account shows them as Key ending in …, and Kimiko shows the same four under Settings → License once the key is active.
Keep your key private: anyone who has it can activate Kimiko with it. If you think your key was shared, contact support.
Activate Kimiko
Section titled “Activate Kimiko”- Install Kimiko on your computer and open it.
- Open Settings → License.
- Under Have a key?, paste your key and select Activate.
Activating needs an internet connection, with Local-only mode turned off in Settings → Privacy. Once it’s active, the license status shows the date your subscription is paid through.
Activating a key ends the free trial on that computer. Your meetings, notes and settings stay as they are.
Move to a new computer
Section titled “Move to a new computer”Your key works on up to 3 computers at a time. If all three are in use, Kimiko can’t activate on another one and says the key is already active on 3 computers, the most it allows. Free a spot first, then activate on the new computer.
Free a spot from the old computer
Section titled “Free a spot from the old computer”On the computer you’re leaving, open Settings → License and select Deactivate. Kimiko on that computer switches to view-only mode: everything you recorded stays readable, but it stops recording.
Deactivate while that computer is online. If it’s offline, the key is removed from it but its spot can stay in use, so also remove it from your account.
Free a spot from your account
Section titled “Free a spot from your account”Use this when the old computer is sold, broken, wiped or out of reach.
- Sign in to your Kimiko account and open License & computers.
- Under Computers, find the one you no longer use and select Remove. If you’ve replaced all your computers, select Remove all computers instead.
- Confirm, and the computer is removed at once.
Computers are listed by type, such as “Mac”, “Windows PC” or “Mac 2”, with the date each was activated. You can rename them to tell them apart. You can remove up to 5 computers a day.
What the removed computer shows
Section titled “What the removed computer shows”Removing a computer frees its spot, but it doesn’t lock that computer out. The next time Kimiko on it checks its license online, Settings → License says This computer was removed from your license and recording stops. Your notes there stay readable. If a spot is free, Re-activate there uses the same key again.
Kimiko checks its license shortly after it opens and about once an hour while it’s running. If a removed computer stays offline, it can keep recording until your paid-through date plus 14 days.
Use Kimiko offline
Section titled “Use Kimiko offline”Kimiko checks your license online. When it can’t reach the license service, it keeps working offline until the date your subscription is paid through. Settings → License then says Licensed offline until that date. After that date, you get 14 more days (shown as Renewal pending), and then Kimiko switches to view-only mode until it can check again.
Local-only mode pauses license checks, so the same dates apply while it’s on.
Update your card or cancel
Section titled “Update your card or cancel”- Sign in to your Kimiko account and open Subscription.
- Select Manage billing on Stripe. Stripe’s secure billing page lets you update your card or cancel your subscription.
When you cancel, your subscription ends at the end of the period you’ve paid for. You won’t be charged again, and Kimiko keeps recording until then. Changed your mind? Before that date, open Manage billing on Stripe again and undo the cancellation.
If a payment doesn’t go through
Section titled “If a payment doesn’t go through”If a renewal payment fails, your account says so, and Stripe tries the payment again for a while. Update your card from Manage billing on Stripe to keep recording. If the payment still can’t be collected, your subscription ends and Kimiko stops recording new meetings on your computers at their next license check. Your meetings and notes stay readable. If you need more time, contact support.
After your subscription ends
Section titled “After your subscription ends”When your subscription ends, Kimiko stops recording new meetings, dictating, importing audio and retranscribing on your computers after its next license check. Everything you already have stays: your meetings and notes remain available to read, search, chat with and export.
Settings → License then says This license isn’t active any more. That’s how the app shows a finished subscription; your data is untouched.
Switch between monthly and annual
Section titled “Switch between monthly and annual”Contact support and we’ll switch your plan for you. The Stripe billing page doesn’t change plans.
Receipts
Section titled “Receipts”Kimiko is sold through Link, Stripe’s payment service, so your receipts are emailed by Link.
Subscribe again
Section titled “Subscribe again”Sign in to your Kimiko account and select Subscribe again, or choose a plan under Subscription.
A new subscription comes with a new license key; your previous key stays ended. On each computer:
- Open Settings → License and select Deactivate to remove the old key.
- Under Have a key?, paste your new key and select Activate.
Add a license you already have
Section titled “Add a license you already have”Have a license key that isn’t in your account yet? Add it so you can manage it there.
- Sign in to your Kimiko account with the same email you used to buy Kimiko.
- On License & computers, find Add a license you already have. If you already have a license there, it’s under Have another key?
- Paste the key from your “Your Kimiko license key” email and select Add to my account.
The purchase must have been made with the email you’re signed in with. If you bought with a different email, sign out and sign in with that address instead, or contact support.
Founder and complimentary licenses sent to your email appear in your account automatically. If you got yours at a different address, sign in with that address.
Get help
Section titled “Get help”Contact support with your purchase email and, for billing questions, the receipt reference from Link. Please don’t send your license key or card details.
