Audio & permissions
Allow microphone access on Mac or Windows, plus system audio and Accessibility on Mac, then pick the right input and fix a transcript missing one side.
On Mac
Section titled “On Mac”Kimiko’s onboarding asks for microphone and system audio access. Use the buttons in setup to trigger the system prompts and follow macOS’s instructions.
| Access | What it enables |
|---|---|
| Microphone | Your side of a meeting and voice dictation |
| System audio | The other side of a call playing on your computer |
| Accessibility | Inserting dictated text into other apps |
If you previously denied access, check Kimiko’s entries in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Permission names can vary with your macOS version. Reopen Kimiko if macOS asks you to restart it after changing access.
For dictation, open Settings → Dictation → Accessibility access in Kimiko and follow the prompt.
On Windows
Section titled “On Windows”Allow microphone access when setup asks. If it is blocked, check Windows microphone privacy settings and allow desktop apps to use the microphone.
Computer audio capture does not require a separate system audio grant. Text insertion does not need a macOS-style Accessibility permission, though Windows can prevent insertion into an app running with higher privileges.
Choose the right microphone
Section titled “Choose the right microphone”Open Settings → Transcription → Input device. Choose the microphone you actually want to use; this input is used for recordings and dictation.
Check this again after connecting a headset or changing your audio devices. Make a short test recording and confirm that your voice appears in the transcript.
If one side is missing
Section titled “If one side is missing”- Your voice is missing: check microphone access and the selected input device.
- Other participants are missing: check system audio access on Mac and confirm the call is playing through your computer.
- The same speech appears twice: try headphones and check Echo cancellation in Transcription settings.
See troubleshooting if audio is still missing.
