You can use Kimiko with local processing throughout. Cloud providers are optional and can have their own accounts, access requirements, and charges.
Cloud AI
Section titled “Cloud AI”Kimiko includes AI provider presets such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and OpenRouter.
- Open Settings → AI → AI providers.
- Add the provider you want to use.
- Complete the connection fields shown in Kimiko. For an API-key connection, use a key issued by that provider.
- Choose Test and resolve any connection error.
- Choose an available model and set the intended jobs under AI tasks to use it.
Adding a provider and choosing it for a task are separate steps. Keep other tasks on built-in AI if you want those to stay local.
For a starting model, choose one your account can access, then test a short summary and a source-based chat question. Compare the result and its cost before routing all your work to it.
Cloud transcription
Section titled “Cloud transcription”Deepgram and ElevenLabs are speech-provider choices. Set up the provider’s key in Transcription settings, then choose the appropriate cloud speech model.
Follow the Deepgram and ElevenLabs setup guide for free-credit details, API key creation, and the steps to connect either provider in Kimiko.
Meeting transcription and dictation have independent model selections. If you want both to use the cloud provider, review both settings.
What leaves your device
Section titled “What leaves your device”| Feature using the cloud | Data sent for that job |
|---|---|
| Meeting or dictation transcription | Audio to the selected speech provider |
| Summaries, tasks, or chat | The text and context needed for that AI task |
| AI dictation formatting | Dictated text and any enabled formatting context |
Your provider’s terms govern its handling of requests. Review its current privacy and billing information before enabling it.
Keys, connectivity, and cost
Section titled “Keys, connectivity, and cost”Enter connection credentials in the app, not in a support message or shared document. A successful connection test does not guarantee access to every model listed by a provider.
Cloud features need a working connection and are blocked by Kimiko’s Local-only mode. Cloud-provider charges are separate from your Kimiko subscription.
